What's cookin?

A little bit of news from the more personal end... looks like Annie will have a little sister or brother in May '09. I'm just about 3 months along now, and I wanted to let you all know so you'd understand if I seem to be working a bit slower this year. I'm working on getting your photos edited and posted for you just as soon as I can, but my favorite working hours used to be after 8pm - and now those are sleeping hours! So bear with me, and thanks for your patience.

As a side note, I think I'm going to need to stop taking on new sessions for the fall to make sure everyone I've already booked gets everything they need on time. I've got tons of wonderful families on the docket in the next few weeks/months, and I can't wait to see you all and your fantastic kidlets. I'm so sorry to anyone who's just contacting me now - maybe consider a January photoshoot? A Happy New Year card? Thanks again for understanding!

Three cousins turn one

A couple of weeks ago, three cousins, all with birthdays a few weeks from each other, turned one.  I've said it before, but I find that birthday parties are best photographed in color.  So although I usually love b&w best... here are some color party shots.  The families enjoyed some delicious food:


And they were lucky enough to kick off their 2nd year of life with some of the most gorgeous cupcakes I've ever seen! (And I just found out their mom is a pro - here's a link to her cupcake company.)

They're all somebody's baby

17 year old M needed some senior photos, and his mom thought she'd get some pics with his 5 1/2 yr old sister C while we were at it.

And here's M, on his motorcycle - one of my favorite shots from his senior photo session. People ask me if I "do" senior photos, and I tell them, as long as you consider them your baby - I'm there. All my clients are growing older.. can't turn them away just because they don't fit the dictionary definition of Boston Babies anymore!

Father's Day piece on CBS Early Show

I've been taking pictures of Eric and Julie Mangini's family since they lived here in Boston and Eric was a Patriots coach. Now he's in NY, coaching the Jets, and they remain one of my most fabulous clients ever. I love their family - every time I take pictures for them, they're always so welcoming and wonderful. I can't say enough nice things about them.

We had (what I think was) my 7th photoshoot with their family this past weekend at their cape house, and Julie showed me a wonderful piece that CBS' Early Show did on Eric and his dad, Carmine, back from around Father's Day. It's posted on YouTube, so I can link to it here, but I should warn you that the audio sync doesn't play well with the video at all for some reason. The cool part for me is that they used tons of pictures I've taken at their photoshoots over the years in the piece. I took all the family shots that appear as the narrator is talking - isn't that fun? Thanks for sharing the link, Eric and Julie - and this summer's pictures will be ready for you in a couple of weeks!

Gorgeous smile

Let me introduce the lovely C - I was so lucky to get to take her picture earlier this week for the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE)'s Annual Heart Gallery. I've donated a session to the Heart Gallery every year since its inception in 2005, and I've met some amazing kids.

The Heart Gallery is an exhibit of portraits of children in the state’s foster care system in need of adoption. Since 2005, 75 percent of the children who've been featured are now with safe, permanent, adoptive families.

And my first Heart Gallery session ever, back in late 2004 for the 2005 gallery... I loved these guys so much. I came home and talked to my husband about the idea of adopting them, really. It didn't make sense for us at the time, but whoever did adopt them is really lucky. It's true of all these kids - they're all just so amazing, I've been so happy to get to meet them all over the years.

Flickr, my newest addiction

You might have read in other posts that this isn't my busy time of year, and therefore I get to catch up on all the sleep I missed during the holiday season, think about planning for 2008... all those great things. And now I also get to play with a new fun toy that I'm quite sure I'm the very last person on the planet to discover: Flickr.com

It's just so impressive to click on "Explore" and see photos that people have posted in the last few days! There are so many fabulous photographers out there. Really inspirational. And the best part is being in groups where people comment on your photos, and you comment on theirs... it's addicting to check and see what photos other people have posted, or what they had to say about your photos.

I know, I know - you guys have all been there, done that. I've apparently been living under a bit of a rock. My husband's been telling me to get on Flickr for years now and I've been ignoring him (sorry). So if anyone else is like me (echo... echo...) and hasn't seen it yet, you should check it out.

Facebook much?

Oh wow, waste-of-time, let me count the ways! This is my quiet time of year, January through March, so I get to spend lots of time with my daughter, and I normally use this time to plan my marketing for the year. Well lo and behold, I got myself a facebook account, and wow, I'm hooked. Lila Guide Launch Party

This past weekend I was the LilaGuide.com Launch Party's photographer at Together in Motion in Arlington. It was a fun event, with goodie bags for all. The LilaGuide.com is an online resource for moms; a "word-of-mouth survival guide for Boston".
